The Beach Boys!

On Sunday Jerry and I went to see the Beach Boys at Beloit Riverfest. Jerry won the tickets from the oldies radio station in Madison. They were just general admission tickets but they got us into the festival and the show. There was a reserved section in front of us but it was only about 15 rows of chairs. The Beach Boys came on at 8pm and we got there about 3pm. We were able to put our chairs down in the first row of the section that wasn't reserved. It was nice because there was a walking space about 8-10 feet in front of us behind the last row of chairs in the reserved. So even when the people in there stood, us short people could still see! We didn't have people standing right in front of us. The only thing we bought there was a bottle of water each so the whole day cost us $4 bucks! Nice! It was a little bit warm out but the sun went behind clouds once in a while and there was a small breeze. For July it was actually pretty nice, probably about 80 degrees. Before the show they had the winner of the Battle of the Bands and the winner of the Riverfest Idol contest. Both were pretty good.

At one time there were about 50 beach balls bouncing around the crowd. It was pretty funny. I tried to get a picture of a bunch of them in the air but of course with a digital camera there is a delay and I kept missing most of them. You can see several in one picture though.

Be sure to check out the guy's head in the lower left of the 3rd pic. (you should be able to click on any of the pics to enlarge it) Yes, those are eyes tatooed on his head! Too funny! Guess his kids will believe that dad has eyes behind his head instead of mom. :o) It was hard to get closer pics because when I telephotoed my camera the pics kept getting blurry. They were probably moving too much. :o) After it started getting dark they were trying to play while swatting bugs. There were a ton on the stage! Guess that's why the mosquitos didn't seem to be bothering us for once. :o) I really would have hated to be up there opening my mouth though. Ewwwww!

It was weird when they mentioned a few songs that they wrote and were playing in 1963. Here were me and Jerry (well ok, Jerry anyway) standing there with grey/white hair and they were talking about songs they wrote and sang when we were 2 years old! Talk about a long career! The original members are in their late 60's! Crazy! They still do a good job singing those songs though. :o)

They were scheduled to play from 8-9:30 pm. They started about 5 minutes late but played till almost 10:00. Guess we were just a fun bunch. Well, except for the annoying drunks. :op Some people really shouldn't drink at all. I was embarassed for some of them. :o)
Enough for today!
Stay tuned tomorrow for a stitchy giveaway contest on my blog! It's my Blogoversary!
Hugs, Elaine

  1. Great pictures and such an entertaining story - thank you! All that was missing was the music, too bad I didn't think of putting some of their songs on while reading. :)
