Great Show!

Well, tonight was our first night at the fair this year. We got there a little before 5:00 and put a blanket in the grandstand to save our spot. They say no saving seats with blankets but everyone always does. :o) There weren't too many people there yet. Not in the grandstands anyway. A lot of people were waiting for the sound check to end so they could put blankets down on the ground in front of the stage. We used to go really early for a spot near the stage but that was when everyone stayed sitting on their blankets. Now everyone on the ground stands. :o( Anyway, we had good seats and Amber got some awesome pictures! This is one of the pics she just emailed to me. Oh, by the way it was Rodney Atkins. A lot of people that listen to country still don't recognize the name till you mention one of his songs. He's had 2 big hits with 'If You're Going Through Hell' and 'Watching You' (or as my great niece calls it, 'the Happy Meal song'. :o) The show was really, really good. About halfway through the head phone mic he had blew out in the middle of a song. He had to drag a mic and stand over and finish the show with that. I don't think he liked it much because he couldn't go all over the stage if he had his guitar in his hands. One part that was really cute was when he recognized a little girl about 4 years old in the crowd. He saw her a while ago somewhere in northern Wisconsin. Last time he saw her she had a mask over her nose & mouth and no hair because she was going through chemo. Last time she came on stage and took off the mask to sing 'If You're Going Through Hell' with him. So today he went into the crowd and carried her up on stage. He introduced her and told us about her. She has short hair now and is in remission. :o) So she sang part of the song again with him. It was enough to make me cry. :o) He seemed so comfortable with a kid in his arms. He has a little boy (the one in the 'Watching You' video) that will start Kindergarten in a week. Anyway, the show was awesome. We had thunderstorms most of the day and again now so we got lucky for the show. Tomorrow we will see George Jones. Not a favorite of mine but Jerry likes the old country. :o) No pictures from that one because Amber isn't going. Then Saturday is Foreigner (saw them 2 years ago and they were great) and Sunday is Josh Gracin. (should have pictures of both. :o)
